Every year the number of fuzzies that find their way to the shelter doors seems to increase, but this year there has been an unprecidented leap in the number of people dumping fur angels. We are packed to the rooftops, officially closed to all but those ferrets coming from animal control and abusive situations.
We are in need of people to adopt and we are in need of people to foster. If you would like to consider either, check out the pages on the shelter site . (NOTE: this will take you to the shelter section, if you don't want to leave the FROLIC site just yet, right click on the link above and then select "open in new window".)
Pet Cages/Supplies Donations wanted!
Help out the shelter! We have a "Cage Fund Campaign" to help with the bills. We've needed new cages and were planning on selling the old ones to defray the cost. With the huge influx of abandoned ferrets, we've needed every last one of them. Nancy, Deb C. and Laura are spending $1000 a month between them on kibble, ingredients for duck soup (for the ill), and litter...and they're paying for it out of their own pockets. All of the adoption fees, donations not specified for a specific reason, and profit from supplies we sell goes to pay the vet bills, which also typically runs $1000 a month.
If you or any of your neighbors have any "pet paraphernalia" laying around you or they would like to donate, please let us know. Any pet supplies for any type of pet, as long as it's in good condition will be accepted. This will help the shelter fill out the supplies they need, and any extra stuff will be sold to help pay the vet bill.
We have several drop off locations, including Bloomington, Oakdale, Cottage Grove and the two main sites being Elk River and Stillwater. For more information please call Laura at 651-439-5209. Please leave a message and be patient for her to get back to you.
Also if you happen to have a full-sized pickup or large suburban type van and can help us transport cages and supplies to our sale site, we would really appreciate your help. You can call Laura (number above) or Nancy 651-458-8061
Thanks!
Contact Laura, Liz, or Nancy as well if you're looking for cages.
We
Want The Sweat Off Your Back....
...or actually, the
sweatshirts, to be accurate. It seems the majority of our little
furpiglets firmly believe the appropriate place for bedding is in the
litterbox. The only method's we've found to prevent this obsession is to
either attach a sleepsack to the cage side or put a sweatshirt, pillowcase
style, over their fleecy beds. Unfortunately we have more beds than
sweatshirts, so if you can donate a few of yours to the "cause", WE'LL thank
you. (And we won't print what the furbrats have to say about you foiling one of
their favorite habits.)
We’ve also been keeping an eye out for a porta-crib
type playpen, the kind that’s up on legs (to prevent uninvited guest from
“dropping in”) and is rectangular, like a bassinet, rather than square. We
use playpens for our post op and very frail kids. If you run into one for a decent (cheap) price, please, let us know.
Stories
needed
We have run out of
stories for our GREAT ESCAPE series (which is probably good, assuming it means there have't been any more
wandering weezils) and for our WEEZIL of
the Month (which means either none of you have any ferts who do anything of any unusual interest or you are all too shy to
brag about your
furmonsters. We're
hoping it's the latter, so if your carpetsharks have done something above and beyond the usual ferrety hi jinxs, let
us know. Send stories to the FROLIC address: FROLIC, P.O. Box 854,
Stillwater, MN 55082.
Do you knit or crochet - or know someone who does? We are collecting leftover washable yarn for Troy Lynn, whose shelter makes the adorable little crochet covered bell toys we have for sale. Troy's shelter is closed, due to ECE, so fundraising items and donations are her only means of support for her 80 plus furbabies. In addition to any washable yarn scraps you can donate, be sure to check out the toys she makes. The covered bells on 6 foot "tails" you hang from your doorways are a hit with the inmates here at the asylum. They are for sale at the shelter and will be available at upcoming meetings and events.
